Online Dating Is Riding The Baby Boomer Rocket

The concept of online dating has been going on probably since the birth of the Internet. The numbers for people turning to the Internet for their social hookups will continue to sky rocket as well. You see the biggest demographic in the world right now are the baby boomers and guess what they have discovered that online dating is the way to go.

Think about it the there are millions and millions of baby boomers out there that are single, divorced or widowed. These people are a perfect fit for online dating as today’s bar scenes and clubs have no appeal to them and more than likely they have well established careers and families that don’t allow them the kind of opportunities that younger people experience.

I say good for them! Online dating is not a fad and the stigma behind the concept of online dating I think was died probably 4 or 5 years ago. I met my wife 8 years ago on the Internet way before it was in style so as you can imagine when ever one of our friends gives us a drama story about not meeting the right person we are more than willing to point them to the Internet. I honestly don’t know what would hold a person back at this point from trying to meet people online.

Seriously, as long as you use your common sense about who you are talking to and how you go about meeting them. The Internet is a great ice breaker when it comes to dating and that is what it should be used for as the ice breaker to get the conversation started. Obviously the intent of meeting someone online is for you to meet them for real. I know occasionally you will hear a story of a couple who carried out their relationship completely online but those are few and far between and honestly that kind of defeats the purpose and goal of online dating.

The online dating scene has come a long way since my wife and I met 8 years ago. Now you have all these niche sites, pay sites and free sites all trying to appeal to a certain demographic of the population. There are even hybrid dating sites now that are called introduction sites which claim to eliminate the searching process as they will handle that for you. Then you have the whole social networking sites that have become giant dating pools onto themselves, best examples of course would be Facebook and MySpace. Let’s face it when it comes to the Internet you are either looking for porn, looking to make money or your looking for love. Not necessarily in that order ;-)
