I was curious to know how many people went to an online dating site in the months leading up to the holidays? I am sure that it went up as right when the holidays come around is when people seem to put that extra pressure on themselves to be with that “someone special” for the holidays. I was wondering because it seems like every time I do a search on the latest news on dating I more often that not see a PR release for the latest new online dating site.
It’s not enough to be the biggest online dating site like match.com anymore either now there are smaller more focused niche online dating sites. These niche dating sites seem to be big business as there seems to be an online dating site for every niche you could possibly think of. No matter what your demographic if it’s white, black, christian, jewish, male, female, gay, straight, old, young, married, divorced and oh yeah single!
I have seen online dating sites for gamers, farmers, sports fans pretty much any type of group or social click you can imagine the odds are there is an niche online dating site to fill your needs. So what’s the point of all these online match making sites? Honestly do we really need to drill down online matchmaking to be as specific as “hey I’m a fan of soccer” and I need to date people who like soccer to. Really? Has the online dating scene become so confusing that we now need to go to online dating sites that are based on our “interest” and not just the fact that we are looking for a date.
I was wondering what your thoughts are on all these niche online dating sites? Do you think that these sites are a help to the cause of finding someone with similar interest to date? Aren’t these sites just capitalizing on your interest? Let’s face it, if you go to an online dating site that is geared towards soccer fans for example the odds are pretty good that all the advertisements around that site will be for soccer. Isn’t an online niche dating site just another way to market ads to a specific niche? Are these niche dating sites really legit in their “match making” premise or are they just matching you up with the right ads to click on?
